Make a Difference Day comes every year on the fourth Thursday of the month since 1992, thanks to the magazine USA Weekend and Points of Light organization. It is one of the largest national days of community service in the U.S. and has inspired millions of acts of service and compassion.
How are you making a difference this October? Here’s our take on some of our favorite ways to make a difference.
- Volunteer with a non-profit. Whether it’s a local, national, or one you know well, reach out to find out how to help. Whether it’s helping animals, humans, or the planet, your help will be appreciated and needed.
- Spread kindness. Acts of kindness or compassion do not have to be a big project; the most minor acts make a difference. Help your elderly neighbor bring in groceries or compliment your colleague on a well-done job.
- Donate to a worthy charity or cause. You can create change by gifting small or large. Each gift makes a ripple.
- Collect nonperishable foods for a local food pantry. Donors get to the feel-good vibes, and the local pantry gets a fresh supply of canned and boxed food—everyone wins.
- Donate blood or plasma. One blood donation can save three lives.
Whatever way you choose to make a difference, remember to spread the word about Make a Difference Day to inspire your friends and family to do the same.
