Hello weSPARK family!
My name is Jennifer Ortiz and I am the new Communications Coordinator here at weSPARK. I am very excited to be a part of the weSPARK family and to be able to contribute to this fantastic organization every day! I am bilingual (English and Spanish) and am passionate about giving back to my community and encouraging our guests to connect with their local organizations to create a healthy and mutually beneficial relationship.
This is my first week here and I am already seeing the amazing benefits that our guests receive from the free services that weSPARK offers. I have had the privilege of being able to sit in on various workshops and classes this week and wanted to take the time to tell you a little about them.
Have you ever taken the Guided Imagery workshop at weSPARK? Yesterday was my first time! Guided Imagery is a relaxation tool that promotes a sense of peace and tranquility during difficult times. The facilitator verbally guides you into a safe place and takes you on an inner journey while inducing total relaxation. This process creates a strong mind/body connection.
Our amazing facilitator for this workshop is metaphysical hypnotherapist, Cheryl O’Neil. Cheryl turns off the lights, burns a candle, and sets the mood by playing relaxing music. She begins by speaking to the group in a way that is therapeutic, relaxing and evokes feelings of serenity. Guests are then led on an inner journey of reflection and tranquility. This process has such a positive impact on the emotional and physical health of our guests.
As a first time attendee, it was initially difficult for me to fall into deep relaxation. My mind was constantly buzzing, falling in and out of relaxation, which I’m told is perfectly normal for a beginning meditation practice. Many of the participants in the class stated that they have found the more they practice and attend these workshops the more they experience the benefits of this deep meditation and imagery. This weekly workshop really encourages guests to look inward and practice self-healing by encouraging relaxation methods.
weSPARK offers completely FREE programs, workshops, classes and individual therapies to cancer patients, survivors and their loved ones. Take a look at our November 2016 schedule for more information about the services we offer.
